Children Challenging Industry
Annual Celebration, Monday 7 July 2008
This year the Annual Children Challenging Industry (CCI) celebration was held on the 7th of July at Catalyst science discovery centre, Runcorn. The CCI project, which I've been involved with since September, aims to give school children in Years 5 and 6 an opportunity to see, in a fun way, how the science they are taught is relevant to everyday life, through a combination of special science lessons and visits to Industry. During the annual celebration I ran a demonstration of a lesson on 'Electricity' with two pupils from Barrow Hall Primary School, Warrington, who had recently been on a trip to Deeside power station.
James Winterburn, PhD student,
"As a young research scientist just beginning my PhD at the University of Manchester I am keen to pass on my passion for science to people of all ages… Since becoming a CCI/PSEP ambassador I have helped teach the Water for Industry topic at Lostock Gralam CE Primary School, and visited local schools to encourage them to participate in the CCI project."
