Why CEAS at Manchester?
International students can gain much more than a degree in the UK.
There is the opportunity to learn new skills, to take advantage of a huge choice of universities and the excellent standards of teaching that the UK provides.
- We are internationally renowned for our teaching and research and have an established reputation for welcoming students from all over the world.
- Qualifications from Manchester are recognised and respected worldwide.
- Our years of experience of working with students from other countries means that we have established many ways to provide support.
In the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, around a quarter of undergraduate students and half of postgraduate students are from countries outside the European Union. This means that you can make friends and learn from students with diverse backgrounds as well as meet students from your home country.
Quality of teaching
Manchester School of CEAS is one of the best in the UK Graded EXCELLENT in H.E.F.C.E. Teaching Audit and Graded 5 in latest Research Assessment Exercise.
Postgraduate Mentor Scheme
Postgraduate Research students in the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science run their own mentor scheme. Current students will be happy to contact you to give advice and information.
For more details of the mentor scheme, contact Ms Caroline Keir by email: pgr-ceas@manchester.ac.uk.
International Development Office
The Airport Collection Service is run by the International Development team to meet new students at Manchester airport on arrival and help you get to your accommodation. The service, which is free of charge for new students, is designed to give all new international students a warm welcome to the University and the city of Manchester.
The Orientation Course is available to international students to help you find your feet in your new environment. Orientation courses introduce you to life at the university, help you settle in to your new surroundings and provide you with the opportunity to meet other new students.
English language teaching and learning
Studying in Manchester helps you learn the language through your study, friends and everyday life.
Applicants have the opportunity to attend English Language courses before they start their research, and some applicants will be required to attend such a course as dictated by the conditions of their offer. New students will attend a free language assessment and may be required to attend English classes following this test.

Student life
The UK, and particularly Manchester, is a diverse and multicultural place which is home to several thousand international students each year.
Because of this, we have a range of facilities suitable for students of all cultures.
International Society
The International Society was founded in 1966 to look after the welfare of international students during their time in Manchester and Salford. Run by students, it provides an atmosphere where people from all over the world can make friends and learn about different cultures. There is a drop in centre, a hospitality scheme, a women's group and the Society organises trips to places of interest.
