International student funding advice

Funding opportunities for international students

Many of our overseas students are successful in obtaining funding from overseas sources and we recommend that you consider all possible sources of funding in your home country. Many students secure funding from universities where they studied their undergraduate or masters degrees or from local government or industry.

Manchester Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS)

The School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science has an Overseas Research Students (ORS) Award Scheme for candidates with exceptional academic achievement and research potential. This award pays the difference between the international tuition fee and the home/EU tuition fee. The ORS award does not cover the home/EU fee, maintenance or travel expenses, but in some cases supervisors may be able to offer additional funding to cover all or part of the home fee and maintenance costs.

We are now accepting ORS applications for September 2011 registration. The deadline for applications is 24 February 2011. To be considered for an ORS award you must submit a formal PhD application form and if you meet the eligibility requirements for this award, your application will be put forward for consideration.

The eligibility requirements for the ORS award are:

Manchester China Scholarship Council Awards

Background and Criteria – The Manchester China Scholarship Council Awards web page contains background details and eligibility criteria. Candidates who apply for an ORS award will automatically be considered for a Manchester China Scholarship Council Award, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria of the scheme. Candidates must possess a research offer from the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science.

Deadline – The next deadline for completed ORS applications for candidates wishing to study at the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science is 24 February 2011.

Process Integration Funding Consortium

Background and Criteria – A limited number of bursaries are available for PhD students carrying out research in process integration and design. These are funded by the Process Integration Research Consortium, a multi-national group of companies. The bursary covers tuition fees and an annual living allowance of £9,000. Bursaries are awarded on merit.

Deadline – There is no official deadline as applicants are considered throughout the year. Early applications however stand a greater chance of success. Candidates must first apply for research study within the School.
