Research student skills training and supervision

Supervisory arrangements

You will have a main supervisor (who you will meet with regularly) and an independent progress examiner. The school has a rigorous and efficient monitoring system in place which facilitates satisfactory progress assessment including annual progress reviews with your supervisor and progress examiner.

Skills training

Students have the opportunity to carry out a Development Needs Analysis and Personal Development Plans that are used to review and develop your range of transferable skills.

Students in the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science benefit from the faculty's Graduate Development Programme which offers a range of tailor made training modules covering themes such as thesis writing, business skills, career management and presentation skills.

You will also have access to an excellent range of specially designed and planned resources that can assist you in your research and contribute to a positive experience of life as a research student in our school:

Many research students are given the opportunity to present their work at conferences and external seminars which gives students the chance to increase confidence, develop communication skills and make contact with researchers in their field.
