Main achievements
The Centre for Process Integration is internationally recognised for the development of a range of process design methods and tools that have been successfully applied and found widespread practice internationally. Energy pinch analysis, the most established of these, is now routinely part of chemical engineering curricula around the world. The Director of the Centre, Professor Robin Smith, is a leading authority on process integration, whose text books have become core texts for teaching and learning process design.
Professor Smith is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of The Institution of Chemical Engineers and an editor of Chemical Engineering Research and Design.
The work of the Centre for Process Integration receives substantial funding from the Process Integration Research Consortium, a multinational group of major companies drawn from the process and energy industries, and from the engineering contracting and consulting sectors. The Centre also attracts significant funding from the European Union and from EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council).
Other editorial appointments within the group include those of Dr Grant M Campbell (associate editor of Cereal Chemistry; editor of Food and Bioproducts Processing) and Dr Jiri Klemes (associate editor of Heat Transfer Engineering).
